Plant for your season — not someone else’s timeline. Space things out so airflow is real, not wishful thinking. Mix in herbs and flowers so beneficial insects show up early. Mulch so you’re not chasing water all summer. Water deep and keep it consistent. Check your garden a few times a week so nothing sneaks up on you. That’s it. No chaos. No constant fixing. No trying a new “hack” every week. When you follow a system, your plants stay stronger… and strong plants don’t create as many problems. You pair them with herbs and flowers that actually do something. Repel pests. Attract beneficial insects. Create balance so you’re not constantly fixing problems. Tomatoes with basil and marigolds. Peppers with herbs. Squash with nasturtiums. That’s how you reduce pressure before it starts. Most people plant a row of one thing and hope for the best… and then wonder why pests show up. 🍉Here’s your melon bodyguard line-up ⤵️ But first 🍉Here’s your melon bodyguard line-up ⤵️ But first know that the main pests for melons are aphids & cucumber beetles. 🌱Alyssum controls aphids by bringing in the good bugs like lacewings & ladybugs who love a good aphid buffet. 🌱Catnip, dill, nasturtiums help deter aphids 🌱Radish, Nasturtiums, French Marigolds & Tansies deter cucumber beetles. 🌱Lavender, Borage, Oregano, French Marigolds help with bringing in the pollinators for watermelon. My goal for my melons is to alternate an herb and a flower.
