You planted foodโ€ฆ and forgot protection. A row of You planted foodโ€ฆ and forgot protection.

A row of tomatoes by itself? Easy target.
Same with peppers, squash, cucumbers.

You need a defense system.

Mix in herbs (like Basil & Dill) and flowers (like Nasturtiums & French Marigolds)โ€” not for looks, for function.
They repel pests, attract beneficial insects, and break up the โ€œall-you-can-eat buffet.โ€

Give plants space so air moves โ€” humidity and crowding make problems spread faster.
Keep soil covered so roots arenโ€™t stressed and weak.

Thatโ€™s how you reduce pressure before it starts.

Skip it, and youโ€™ll be out there reacting all season.

Build it, and your garden handles a lot of it for you.

If youโ€™re done losing plants every season and ready to build a garden that actually defends itself, comment DEFEND and Iโ€™ll DM you the link. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

Your garden isnโ€™t โ€œprotectedโ€ โ€” itโ€™s exposed. โ€ผ๏ธI Your garden isnโ€™t โ€œprotectedโ€ โ€” itโ€™s exposed.

โ€ผ๏ธIf youโ€™re not planting Nasturtiums, youโ€™re leaving your crops wide open.

These arenโ€™t just pretty flowersโ€ฆ they actually defend ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿปyour garden (also lovingly considered a trap crop).

โžก๏ธ They have an airborne phytochemical that deters whiteflies.
โžก๏ธ Hoverflies love nasturtiums (and bonusโ€ฆ they eat aphids).
โžก๏ธ Yellow nasturtiums are an aphid magnet (yellow sticky trap method). Plant them to draw aphids away from your main crops.
โžก๏ธ They repel cabbage, squash bugs, and other beetles
โžก๏ธ They can be grown as ground cover to prevent weeds & help maintain soil moisture.
โžก๏ธ They attract beneficial insects that handle pests for you.
โžก๏ธ The leaves & flowers are actually edible (and pack a peppery punch).

โญ๏ธ Hereโ€™s how you use them right:
Plant them like bodyguards โ€” not decorations.
Around tomatoes & peppers.
Broccoli & Cauliflower
Cabbage
Cucumbers
Kale
Potatoes
Pumpkins & Squash
Radish

Tuck them between plants. Line your beds. Scatter them throughout.

Some people claim that Nasturtiums can compete with plants like Squash & Cucumbers. Itโ€™s worth experimenting to find out what works for you in your garden. If youโ€™re nervous about them, plant them close but not too close.

This isnโ€™t a trend.
Itโ€™s old-school companion planting that actually works.
But it only works if you use enough of them.

One plant wonโ€™t do it.๐Ÿ‘€

Density + placement + consistency = protection.

Fix your soil or donโ€™t expect much. Before you pl Fix your soil or donโ€™t expect much.

Before you plant anything, add compost and actually build the soil. Plants canโ€™t grow in dead soil. โ˜ ๏ธ

Living, nutrient-rich soil is key ๐Ÿ”‘

Thatโ€™s what holds moisture.
Thatโ€™s what feeds the plant.
Thatโ€™s what grows roots that can handle heat and pests.

Skip this and youโ€™ll spend the whole season trying to โ€œfixโ€ weak plants.

Itโ€™s not a product problem.
Itโ€™s not a pest problem.

Itโ€™s a foundation problem.

Get the soil right first and everything else gets easier.
