Before anything goes back in the bed, hereโ€™s what Before anything goes back in the bed, hereโ€™s what I do first:

๐ŸŒฑ Pull out all dead and spent plants

๐Ÿšซ Pull out anything diseased and trash it, not compost, trash

๐Ÿชฑ Add a good layer of compost on top of your soil

๐ŸŒฟ Scratch it in if you can, or broadfork it in if you really want to do it right

๐Ÿ’ง Get some water on the soil to start working those nutrients in

Right as youโ€™re planting:
๐Ÿฉธ Add a nitrogen boost with blood meal

๐ŸŒŸFor each transplant hole I add water, worm castings, and blood meal before the plant goes in.

๐ŸŒŸIf youโ€™re direct sowing, the compost will help โ€œfeedโ€ the plant. Once you see the first true leaves, thatโ€™s two full sets of leaves, fertilize with fish emulsion.

Your fall harvest starts with what you do to your beds right now.

P.S. If you want a garden that protects itself โ€” without chemicals or constant guessing โ€” comment SYSTEM and Iโ€™ll DM you the link.๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’š

For pest repelling:
French Marigolds, Chives, Garlic, Onions, Basil, Sage, Thyme, Mint (good to practice containment with this one ๐Ÿ˜‰IYKYK) & Rosemary

For pest distractions (aka trap crops):
Nasturtiums, Radish, Blue Hubbard Squash, Collards, Turnips & Sunflowers

For attracting beneficial bugs (that will take care of the bad bugs):
Dill, Fennel, Yarrow, Alyssum, Cosmos, Calendula, Sunflowers, Borage, Cilantro

For building better soil:
Peas, Beans, Crimson Clover, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Fava beans, Lentils

For living mulch (or when you donโ€™t have much space):
Lettuce, Spinach, Arugula, Strawberries, Oregano

Once you understand how to build your bodyguard system, your garden starts working for you instead of against you

Stay insideโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ These 110 degree F days are nuts. Stay insideโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

These 110 degree F days are nuts. If youโ€™ve got plants still producing in this heat, besides peppers, okra and zinniasโ€ฆprops to you.

Iโ€™m staying inside until this heat bubble pops. ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚

Thereโ€™s plenty to do with fall seed starting.
